Promotions at health system
The Greater Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS) in Middletown, which is composed of Catskill Regional Medical Center and Orange Regional Medical Center, (ORMC) has announced several promotions.
Linda Gonska has been promoted to administrator system controller. She has been a member of ORMC since 1997, when she started as senior accountant at the Horton campus. Most recently, Gonska held the position of controller for ORMC. In her new role, she will be controller for both the facilities.
Manuela Lupu has been promoted to accounting manager. She joined CRMC in 2005 as general account analyst and in 2012. She most recently held the position of senior accountant. In her new role, she will be responsible for accounting and payroll staff throughout the system.
William Scheuermann has been promoted to administrator of revenue strategy and decision support. He has been with ORMC for 13 years serving in several roles, including senior analyst, manager of managed care and most recently as director of managed care and decision support. In addition to his current areas of responsibility, Scheuermann will help shape the GHVHS revenue and price transparency strategies and also lead the implementation of the GHVHS”™ decision support technology solution.
Fred Conklin has been promoted to director of quality services. He joined the quality department in 2006 as clinical project coordinator. In 2012, he took on the role of director of quality for CRMC where he enhanced the performance improvement and patient safety programs.
Rachel Roeber is now director of clinical documentation improvement and DRG Optimization. She joined ORMC in 2010 as a quality nurse specialist. In her new role, Roeber will oversee a team of clinical documentation improvement specialists and conduct pre- and post-coding reviews of patient mortalities and hospital-acquired conditions.
Kelly Roth has been promoted to manager, regulatory and patient safety. Her scope of responsibility includes the coordination of accreditation activities and compliance with external agencies, including the Joint Commission, CMS and NYSDOH, across all GHVHS facilities. She has been a member of the Orange Regional Medical Center staff since 2008.
ORMC names clinical research manager
Jessica Gerlach has been appointed manager of clinical research and oncology community outreach at Orange Regional Medical Center”™s Spagnoli Family Cancer Center in Middletown.
Gerlach has an extensive background in clinical trials, including pharmaceutical research and has worked on clinical trials at ORMC since 2005.
Gerlach coordinates the Institutional Review Board, which approves and reviews all human studies and ensures compliance with all requirements for patients enrolled in clinical trials as well as overseeing oncology screenings and oncology education events at ORMC. She screens and enrolls eligible patients for leading edge, high-priority, nationally recognized clinical trials.
During her time at Orange Regional, Gerlach has expanded the clinical trials program from oncology trials to other types of clinical trials, including a first Phase 1 device trial for sleep apnea.
Stifel exec attends conference
Debra Weiner, senior vice president/investments in the White Plains office of Stifel Financial Corp., was one of 700 financial advisers to attend the ninth annual Barron”™s Top Women Advisors Summit, an invitation-only conference hosted by Barron”™s magazine in West Palm Beach.
Participants attended workshops that explored current wealth management issues ranging from marketing to high-net-worth investors to portfolio management and retirement planning.
“This conference provided a rare opportunity to hear about major developing trends from some of the top talent in the financial and business world today,” Weiner said.
A financial adviser with more than 30 years of experience, Weiner has spoken at public forums on investing. She holds the Accredited Asset Management Specialist certification.
Architecture firm wins award
The architecture firm of Keller/Eaton Architects in Mamaroneck won the HOBI (Home Building Industry) Award for Best Out of State Custom Home for 2014, sponsored by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Connecticut Inc. The winning home is in Rye on a two-acre parcel on the Long Island Sound. The contractors were Murphy Brothers Inc.
The owners wanted a two-story open-floor plan with an exterior that would be in harmony with the natural environment that surrounds the home.
“First and foremost we are pleased that we could execute the homeowners”™ vision to create the light, air, space and flow that they requested and use natural elements to give the home a timeless appeal. Secondly, we are delighted that our interpretation of this vision was recognized by the HBRA,” said Robert Keller, principal architect at Keller/Eaton Architects.
“In conjunction with the beautiful design, we were able to incorporate cutting-edge technology of a cogeneration and geothermal HVAC system,” added Dianne Eaton, LEED certified principal architect at the firm.
Scarsdale firm named top 100 adviser
Palisades Hudson Asset Management was named America”™s 91st largest independent registered investment advisor by REP., a leading magazine for financial professionals. The firm, which manages $1.25 billion of client assets, is the investment affiliate of Palisades Hudson Financial Group, a fee-only financial adviser based in Scarsdale and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Client assets are managed under the overall direction of Paul Jacobs, chief investment officer.

Rabin selected as a ‘top rated lawyer’

Astor names board chairman
James M. Raimo Sr. was elected chairman of the board of directors of Astor Services for Children & Families in Rhinebeck.
Raimo is vice president for facilities and operations at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh and has extensive governance experience, having served on the boards of several community-based organizations, including Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange County. In addition, Raimo has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 35 years. He has also served as president and treasurer of the Newburgh Rotary Club.

Ridgewood brings techs to branches
Ridgewood Savings Bank has announced that 35 in-branch tech specialists will now be available to educate customers, staff and the community on the bank”™s portfolio of digital banking products and services.
“As a community-centered bank, we are dedicated to helping people understand and expand their use of digital banking and the efficiencies to gain from these options. This on-site resource has been created as we begin to prepare for the future banking experience,” said Walter J. Reese, senior vice president of retail banking, Ridgewood Savings Bank.
The tech specialists will provide one-on-one demonstrations and workshops, assist customers in signing up for mobile and online services and troubleshoot any issues.
March of Dimes honors Valenti
Patricia A. Valenti, principal at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank in White Plains, was presented with the Leo Jaffe Distinguished Volunteer Service Award of the March of Dimes New York State chapter.
The Leo Jaffe award, named for Jaffe who was president and CEO of Columbia Pictures and served as board chairman of the March of Dimes Greater New York Chapter from 1976 to 1978, is one of the chapter”™s most esteemed awards ”“ the first was given in 1987 in honor of Jaffe”™s volunteer service to the March of Dimes. This award is given to one outstanding volunteer whose work and tenure of service in all areas has helped advance the mission of the March of Dimes to the highest degree.
Board leadership transition at Central Hudson
Margarita K. Dilley, a former telecommunications executive who has served on the boards of directors of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. and its parent company CH Energy Group Inc. for a decade, was recently appointed the new chair of both boards, effective Jan. 1, following the retirement of H. Stanley Marshall effective Dec. 31. Marshall is retiring after more than four decades of service with Fortis Inc., the Canadian holding company that acquired Central Hudson as its first U.S. utility subsidiary in 2013.
“Margarita”™s significant level of experience, superb financial background and excellent management capabilities make her the ideal individual to continue moving Central Hudson forward in service to its customers and communities,” said Marshall. “During a time when the utility industry is undergoing many fundamental changes and facing many challenges, Margarita is prepared and qualified to lead the board in its important deliberations and responsibilities.”
Dilley, a resident of Washington, D.C., is the former vice president and chief financial officer of Astrolink International LLC. She joined the board of Central Hudson in 2004 and has also chaired its audit and risk committee.
Canadian businesswoman Nora M. Duke, president of Fortis Properties Inc., was also appointed to the board of directors.
As president and CEO of Fortis Properties, Duke is responsible for two operating divisions: commercial real estate and hotels. Fortis Properties operates in eight Canadian provinces and has a workforce of more than 2,300 employees. Its portfolio includes 23 hotels with 4,400 rooms that operate under franchised and independent brands.
In 2010, Duke was named one of Canada”™s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women”™s Executive Network, and in 2013, she was inducted into Atlantic Business Magazine”™s Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame. She is a resident of Newfoundland.
