ORMC presents art exhibit
Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown is hosting an art exhibit featuring four regional artists whose work focuses on the influence of automobile culture on the American landscape. The exhibit, “American Dream,” includes artists Angela Basile, Erica Hauser, David Levy and Scott Nelson Foster whose imagery ranges from vintage roadside attractions to suburban street scenes. The exhibit will remain on view until Feb. 27.
Rhinebeck artist Basile paints images of a fictional place called Whip City. She uses pastel, muted colors in her paintings to capture the quietude of suburban ranch houses in middle-class neighborhoods.
Hauser, a painter and illustrator from Newburgh, takes a nostalgic view of Americana and captures a specific sense of time and place through her use of vintage graphics and roadside icons such as ice machines, classic Ford trucks and gas station pumps.
Levy of Monmouth County, N.J., combines geometric abstraction and engineered architectural realism in his series of dashboard paintings, including “1968 muscle car.”
Albany artist Foster, creates artwork that reflects changing ideas about the American experience, the American dream and societal relationships to the land. His paintings of the suburban landscape with houses, subdivisions and strip-malls, evoke shared experiences.
