Professional Women of Westchester”™s (PWW) third annual meet-the-media event featuring 100 local entrepreneurs and professionals was held April 13 at Ruth”™s Chris Steak House in Tarrytown. Panelists included Nancy Ward, morning anchorwoman for FIOS1 News Lower Hudson Valley; Jenn Andrlik, executive director, Westchester Home magazine; Jeanne Muchnick, features editor, Daily Voice; and Anne Jordan Duffy, associate publisher, Westfair Communications Inc.

NYSID to dedicate new Battle Buddy Center
New York State Industries for the Disabled Inc. (NYSID) is dedicating its newest Battle Buddy Center at Valhalla-based Westchester Community College (WCC), in collaboration with AHRC New York City and American Maintenance, an organization committed to finding ways for people with disabilities to build full lives. The event takes place, April 28, 2 p.m., on the WCC campus, 75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla, in the Veterans Resource Lounge, Student Center Room 283. Battle Buddy Centers are safe havens for veterans to socialize with fellow veterans and receive services they need.
HVEDC welcomes Giordano
Frank P. Giordano III, partner and shareholder of Middletown-based Judelson, Giordano & Siegal CPA PC, an accounting firm, has been named to the board of directors for Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC), an economic development agency for Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties. Giordano”™s experience includes assisting new clients and startup businesses in implementing complete accounting packages, including hardware and software. He holds a bachelor”™s in accounting and finance from Pace University.
Balchem appoints new president and CEO
New Hampton-based Balchem Corp. appointed Theodore (Ted) L. Harris as president and CEO and as a member of the Balchem board of directors, succeeding Dino A. Rossi, who remains chairman of the board.
Harris most recently served as senior vice president and president, Performance Materials of Ashland Inc., a specialty chemical company. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at FMC Corp., a chemical manufacturing company, where he served in a variety of senior level roles.
NYPA president elected chairman of EPRI
Gil C. Quiniones, president and CEO of the New York Power Authority, was elected chairman of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), a national nonprofit devoted to research and development in the electricity field.
Quiniones, who previously served as EPRI vice chairman, succeeds Denis P. O”™Brien, CEO of Exelon Utilities. He is serving a four-year term.
HRHCare health centers receive recognition
Hudson River HealthCare (HRHCare), a nonprofit offering medical services for underserved communities throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island, announced the HRHCare Center at Hudson, the HRHCare Livingston Street Health Center at Poughkeepsie, the HRHCare Maxine S. Postal Tri-Community Health Center at Amityville and the HRHCare Kraus Family Health Center at Southampton have all received the National Committee for Quality Assurance Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition. The highest PCMH ranking available, this recognition solidifies these four health centers, along with 18 other HRHCare Health Centers that have already achieved Level 3 PCMH recognition, as medical homes that emphasize care and communication.
Annual meeting of the Dutchess County Historical Society
The Dutchess County Historical Society”™s 2015 annual meeting is being held April 29, 5:30 p.m., at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at the FDR Presidential Home and Library, 4079 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park. The meeting”™s keynote address, “The Second Surrender: Sherman”™s 1865 Campaign in the Carolinas and the End of the Civil War,” is being delivered by Keith Altavilla, the Rowan Postdoctoral Fellow in Military History at the United States Military Academy at West Point and historian at Rowan Technology Solutions.
Julie B. Fee Sotheby”™s welcomes Goodstein-Frazier
Julia B. Fee Sotheby”™s International Realty, a real estate firm with offices in Rye, Scarsdale, Larchmont and Bronxville, appointed Cindy Goodstein-Frazier as real estate agent in the firm”™s Larchmont Brokerage. Goodstein previously served as a real estate agent for Corcoran Group Real Estate in Manhattan. She holds a master”™s in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor”™s in urban studies from Brown University.
Central Hudson awarded for customer service
Fishkill-based Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. received the annual Headliner Award from the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce for restoring electric service and keeping residents informed following a heavy snowstorm in November. The Edison Electric Institute, an industry peer group, also recognized Central Hudson this year with its emergency response award for restoration of electric service following the storm.
White Plains Hospital epilepsy center recognized
The National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) has recognized The Seizure Diagnostic Center at White Plains Hospital as a level four epilepsy center. Level four epilepsy centers have the expertise to provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.
This marks the fifth year that White Plains Hospital has received this designation.
Purchase College named top green college
Purchase-based Purchase College, SUNY was named as one of the nation”™s top environmentally-responsibly schools by “The Princeton Review Guide to 353 Green Colleges.” The Princeton Review chose the schools based on its green guide, a compilation of the company”™s 2014 survey of hundreds of four-year colleges concerning the schools”™ commitments to the environment and sustainability. Of a possible 100 points, Purchase College received a green rating of 91.
BGCNW names CEO
Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester (BGCNW) promoted Alyzza Ozer of Chappaqua as CEO. Previously serving as chief development officer for BGCNW, Ozer has played a role in identifying statistics regarding the club”™s impact. Prior to joining, Ozer served as senior vice president of resource development and community engagement of United Way of Westchester and Putnam and regional vice president of the Manhattan office of the American Cancer Society.
