Cosimo DiBrizzi”™s restaurant legacy continues through his family, celebrating their next entry into the world of eating with The Pizza Shop at 27 S. Water Street in Newburgh, which has officially opened and is ready for business.
Cosimo”™s Restaurant Group, now headed by DiBrizzi”™s son, Nicholas and his partner and cousin, Nick Citera, are bringing family style eating to the newly renovated West Shore Train Station in Newburgh.
“It”™s really wonderful the old train station has been saved,” said Citera, where The Pizza Shop will occupy 1,700 square feet of space. “The same architects who designed Grand Central Terminal designed the West Shore Station. It would be a shame if the city would have lost an architectural gem like this to the wrecking ball.”
Citera estimates there will be between 17 to 25 full- and part-time jobs created as a result of the restaurant, which overlooks the Newburgh waterfront from its perch on South Water Street, complete with Wi-Fi and outlets available for its plugged-in patrons, who can enjoy café au lait as well as a vibrant view of the Hudson while surfing the Internet.
With the new Orange County Community College opened just up the hill and offering delivery service within a six-mile radius, Citera said the new eatery”™s chic but casual atmosphere is poised to please. “We will serve pizza by the slice, in addition to our signature pan pizzas, daily entrée specials and house-baked breads and pastas.” Wine and beer are included on the menu.
Citera said the cost to renovate the new space was approximately $200,000. “It”™s a great location,” he said, “and we are following the business plan my Uncle Cosimo laid out a long time ago when he started his first business, Cosimo”™s on Union at the other end of Newburgh. He had a recipe for success and we”™re sticking with it: good food, a friendly atmosphere and keeping customers satisfied. I think we are bringing all that and more to our new restaurant.”
In addition to going into the beautifully refurbished train station which is now home to a new theater venue established by co-founders Jen and Seth Soloway, Citera said plans are in the works for another Pizza Shop on their property on Route 9 in Fishkill.
“We”™re hoping to open there in early summer. We already have Five Guys Burgers and Fries, King Kone and Orange County Trust opening a new Dutchess branch on the property and have 3,000 square feet available for another tenant.”
