Marist College in Poughkeepsie will host the mid-Hudson regional semifinal in this year’s New York Business Plan Competition.
This is sixth year of the contest in which enrolled college students compete for funding and exposure to expert criticism and potential investors. Students can win more than $500,000 in prizes this year.
In the contest, students from colleges in New York develop business ideas and products and then present them in front of a panel of judges who range from venture capitalists and investors to entrepreneurs and bankers, among others.
Participants have six categories to choose from for their ideas: nanotechnology and advanced technology, energy and sustainability, biotechnology and health care, products and services, information technology and software, and social entrepreneurship and nonprofit enterprise.
The state is divided into 10 regions based on New York’s Regional Economic Development Councils, and a college in each area will host a semifinal round of the competition during March and early April. Two winners of each category in each region will move on to the final competition in Albany on April 24.
