A tire is considered bald if it has 1/16th of an inch or less of tread depth. Further, nearly one in 10 cars on the road is cruising with at least one bald tire. Another attention-getter: Fully 27 percent of cars are driving with one or more “substantially underinflated” tires.
This news comes not to you from the garage on the corner, but from the legal blogs of Newburgh-based Finkelstein and Partners L.L.P. with 75 attorneys and lawyers of counsel.
Responsibility for the blogs is spread out across the firm, according to principal Andrew Finkelstein, 46. He has been practicing law 21 years and blogging for three years. It is but one tech-savvy adaptation at the firm, which also is 100 percent paperless; features online viewing of files; and participates in the digital distribution of information to clients ”“ all part of what Finkelstein termed “a dedication to providing superior service.”
Finkelstein said that prior to the blogs ”“ accessible at lawampm.com ”“ he had sent information via emails.
“The blogs allow people to view information in their own time at their leisure,” he said.
The impetus to blog, Finkelstein said, was the torrent of information to which his office is privy, much of which skates in the realms of helpful and even life-saving.
“I get an email every day from the FDA,” Finkelstein said, referencing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. “I also hear frequently from the Consumer Products Safety Commission. These are not communications the average person is going to be receiving.”
A survey of blogs reveals:
Ӣ A study of 577 blood cancer victims that cites acetaminophen as contributing to a two-fold increase in the disease among those who took it four days a week for at least four years. Aspirin, the blog noted, offers no such risks;
Ӣ Antilock brakes are now available for motorcycles. Either have them installed, the blog advises, or get a bike that has them. Antilock brakes cut down on motorcycle fatalities 37 percent; and
”¢ Specifics on dog-bite law, including the word not all dogs are created equal in the eyes of the law; some are deemed “inherently vicious.”
Two blogs are specific: “The Veterans Service Blog” and the “Traumatic Brain Injury Blog,” allowing readers interested in those specific issues to zero in with a single click.
“The blog is really a great vehicle to get out a lot of information,” Finkelstein said. “The feedback has been very positive.”
The website contains the firm”™s blog archive dating to October 2010.
Blogs also free up the lawyers”™ inner Ernest Hemingway.
“The blogs allow us to write in a way that”™s different than is required by the law,” Finkelstein said. “We can be more expressive with topics like safety issues without having to argue a point.”
