Legal Services of the Hudson Valley received $25,000 from The JP Morgan Chase Foundation to fund its Orange County Foreclosure Mitigation Project, providing legal services to residents at risk of losing their homes.
Based in White Plains, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley provides complimentary, civil legal services to low-income and newly unemployed individuals in Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Sullivan, Ulster and Putnam counties.
“We are grateful to JP Morgan Chase for helping us to address the foreclosure crisis in Orange County,” said Barbara Finkelstein, executive director of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, in a statement. “Foreclosures have a negative impact on entire neighborhoods, adversely affecting the property values of all surrounding homes. Each foreclosure we prevent ultimately benefits not only an individual family, but a whole community.”
New York state was ranked No. 42 for foreclosure filing rates in the nation last year, according to a comprehensive report by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Though the number of new foreclosure filings reportedly fell last year, mortgages in the foreclosure process continue to grow.
