Forget the pitching wedge. White Plains-based Lexco Wealth Management is sponsoring a fundraiser where a bar of soap would be more appropriate.
Lexco principal Chris Jordan is also a board member of The United States Association of Blind Athletes (usaba.org). His mud-run fundraiser for the cause takes place at Thunder Ridge Ski Center in Patterson June 9.
“As many of you know, I am the proud father of two great kids, one of which is legally blind from birth,” Jordan writes. “In the U.S., recent estimates are that 25.2 million people suffer from low vision and degrees of blindness. The unemployment rate for this group is over 70 percent, yet participation in organized sports cuts this number in half. The discipline, camaraderie, character building and self-esteem building of athletics are typically taken for granted. The blind are often unable to play and the social and then economic implications just are not acceptable.”

As for the mud-run, Jordan says, “I realize an obstacle course run is not for everyone so I have decided to match the first $2,500 of donations dollar-for-dollar if the project moves you.”
