Gershowitz Transportation in Neversink has been around for nearly three decades, so the owners decided it was time not just to expand, but to give the business a makeover.
The company provides transportation for the Tri-Valley and Neversink school districts and Sullivan ARC with its 32-bus fleet.
It has been working since the 1980s from its original 4,180-square-foot building. A new addition creates an additional 1,980 square feet of space to offer a larger break room for the staff, a new training room and office space.
Project manager Frank Pisapia said the addition was built using local labor. “It”™s our pleasure to help out the local economy, as well as help business improve at the same time.”
Gershowitz did indeed shop and buy local, utilizing the tools and talents of Woodburne Lawn and Garden, Superior Building Supplies, G. Mears Electric, Freeman Plumbing and Bedik Communications, among others.
Gershowitz President Phil Vallone said by making the investment, the company can enhance employee training, which will have a positive impact on increasing safety for its customers. “That”™s the focus of our new $250,000 addition,” said Vallone.
Neversink terminal manager Lena Gentile likes the upgrade. “It”™s wonderful for our workers,” she said. “We have a brand new training room, and more room for staff. It makes life a lot easier on our workers and ultimately, helps us operate and train more efficiently.”
Vallone said, “In the past, we”™ve viewed local investments as the cornerstone of our existence ”“ we don”™t plan on that ever changing.”
