ARC of Rockland, a for-profit organization in Congers, recently launched the ARC Business Advisory Council to serve as a resource for job seekers with developmental disabilities.
Through the partnership with business leaders, ARC of Rockland plans to increase awareness of the benefits gained by “hiring dedicated, skilled individuals who are eager to work,” said Carmine G. Marchionda, ARC of Rockland’s executive director.
The partnership grants more visibility of persons with disabilities in the business community and signals to the employers that they can find self-sufficient workers in this group of potential candidates, said Al Samuels, president and CEO of the Rockland Business Association.
“One of the things we need to do in Rockland is to ensure that we have a resident workforce, and the more we can help to provide that workforce, the more likely we are to attract new businesses and maintain the businesses that are already here.” Samuels said.
