A specialty health-care company in suburban Maryland will decide this spring whether to relocate its corporate headquarters to downtown White Plains, a move projected to bring 200 jobs to Westchester County on an $18.2 million annual payroll.
Based in Silver Spring, APS Healthcare Bethesda Inc. is considering leasing 44,000 square feet of space at Westchester One, the 44 South Broadway office building owned by Beacon Capital Partners. The furnished space was occupied by Argent Mortgage Company L.L.C., the California-based subprime mortgage lender that closed its operations downtown and vacated about 300,000 square feet at Westchester One in the subprime market collapse a year ago.
Westchester County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Theresa Waivada said APS Healthcare also is considering locations in Madison, N.J., and in Maryland. The company estimated relocation costs at $1.65 million.
In an effort to make the White Plains site competitive, the county IDA last week gave preliminary approval to a lease agreement whereby the company would be exempt from an estimated $80,000 in sales taxes. Waivada said the company is likely to save too on furniture and equipment costs at Westchester One.
“We”™re hopeful that they”™ll choose us,” she said. The company”™s decision is expected in late spring.
Founded in 1992, APS Healthcare provides behavioral health care and care management services to about 1,000 commercial and public-sector clients in more than 20 states and in Puerto Rico. It has 1,300 employees and serves about 20 million health-care program members.
