In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles, White Plains Hospital has a launched the Ex-STEP-tional step challenge to engage area workplaces in helping employees to be more physically active.
The step challenge will be held from Oct. 5 to Oct. 30 with workplaces across the county forming teams to challenge each other to walk the greatest amount of steps during that span. The hospital will hold an awards luncheon Nov. 5 to recognize the winners.
Area workplaces can sign up beginning Sept. 17 by visiting wphospital.org/exsteptional. Participants can also check their step totals on the website.
White Plains Hospital and CEO Susan Fox said she was looking forward to seeing the program hopefully catch on across the county.
“White Plains Hospital is committed to keeping our community healthy both inside and outside of our walls,” Fox said. “We hope this walking program, which has been so successful with our employees at White Plains Hospital, will be just as successful at other workplaces in the community.”
Ex-STEP-tional step challenge is modeled after White Plains Hospital’s internal program Step-it-UP, in which 66 hospital teams walked a total of 147,188,740 steps over the summer.
White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach said the hospital’s initiative compliments the city’s Youth Bureau’s Annual Wellness Week, which is held Sept. 19 to Sept. 28.
“The Ex-STEP-tional Stepping Challenge fits perfectly into the kinds of health and wellness activities we support and encourage,” Roach said. “I am pleased to support it and encourage White Plains businesses to actively participate.”
White Plains Hospital, which is a member of the Montefiore health System, is a 292-bed nonprofit health care organization.
