White Plains Hospital has invited more than 150 cancer survivors to its 15th annual celebration of the hospital”™s cancer program, its patients and health care professionals on Sunday.
The brunch, which is being held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in White Plains, will include guests such as lymphoma survivor Karen “Toby” Haghenbeck, an assistant professor of nursing at the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University, and Thomas Roach, the mayor of White Plains, who has also beaten cancer.
“Cancer Survivors Day is a way for survivors to connect with each other and celebrate milestones with loved ones who have helped care for them,” said Mark Gordon, an oncologic surgeon and chairman of the hospital”™s cancer committee. “It is also a very meaningful way for us as health care providers to celebrate our successes with our patients.”
The hospital is months away from completing an extensive addition and renovations to its cancer center. The expansion includes a new six-story outpatient physician office tower and an infusion center. The project will double the square footage of the cancer program’s space to make it 70,000 square feet. Hospital officials expect the new center to open before November.
