Bruce Schoenberg is a spa owner, but he doesn”™t go for treatments at his own spa. Â
After all, as Schoenberg”™s says, the emperor can”™t be seen without his clothes.
After booking a few appointments at other spas, Schoenberg was “underwhelmed” by the competition, especially one spa where the receptionist took a phone call and left him waiting for several minutes.
Schoenberg and his wife and business partner, Marti, found that the biggest issue with most spas was poor customer service and heavy-handed sales tactics. Â
“A spa is not just about getting a massage or a facial,” Schoenberg, of Hastings-on-Hudson, said. “It”™s a mind-body experience, and that experience starts with the phone call to book an appointment.”
Now, Schoenberg”™s Oasis Day Spa in Dobbs Ferry has brought the Manhattan spa experience to Westchester.
“From the moment you walk into Oasis that the word of the day is aahhhh,” Schoenberg said.
The 10-year-old spa chain, which currently has locations at One Park Avenue and at The Affinia Dumont Hotel in Manhattan, celebrated the grand opening of its first Westchester County location last week at 50 Livingstone Ave. The spa has been open since November.
The 6,500-square-foot spa features an outdoor roof deck with a “Zen Garden,” relaxation area and rooftop massages.Â
Indoors, the spa has a private event space for bridal showers, bachelorette parties, birthday parties and corporate off-site retreats, along with 15 treatment rooms including “wet rooms,” advanced skincare and a “couples” room, where couples can receive treatments like massages, side by side.Â
The spa also houses a 1,000-square-foot retail store, which offers fitness wear, gifts, clothing and an extensive array of skin- and spa-related products.Â
In addition to being a destination for affordable luxury, “this is a spa that is also a place for people to do business,” Schoenberg said.
Lunch and spa services combined with space for training programs have been so popular at the Manhattan locations that Schoenberg believes it will be a success in Westchester as well.
In addition to catering to businesses, the spa also caters to employees.
“We are geared toward people that work,” Schoenberg said. “We”™re open late seven days a week. You can come in here and get an hour massage at 8:15 at night.”
Marti, a longtime massage therapist, will be working at the spa. Bruce Baltz, an internationally known educator in the spa industry and the developer of the deep tissue stone massage, will also be on board.
“New York state does not require continuing education for massage therapists or estheticians, but we require re-certification every two years,” Schoenberg said. “We train them better than anyone else. From the moment you walk through our doors you are having a spa experience until you leave.”
