An updated planning and legal guide for senior citizens and their families is available at the Westchester County website.
“Elder Law Q&A: Answers to Questions about Estate and Financial Planning, Health Care Planning and Elder Abuse” covers topics ranging from power of attorney to long-term care insurance and wills and trusts. The guide also discusses such topics as preservation of assets in connection with Medicaid planning, taxes, health care proxies and living wills.
The complete guide or selected pages can be downloaded from the website at www.westchestergov.com/seniors. A Spanish version of the guide is expected to be posted soon.
The guide is published by the Pace Women”™s Justice Center at Pace Law School in White Plains in collaboration with the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale.
First published in 2000, the guide was written by attorney Steven A. Schurkman, a partner at Keane & Beane P.C. in White Plains. He is a former chairman of the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, which recruits corporations to contribute funds and underwrite specific programs to expand needed services for the elderly.
Funding for the guide was provided by the county public/private partnership, the Weinberg Center, the Brenner Family Foundation, the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and the Starr Foundation.
