NYS Cong. John Hall and Alan Atzrott, CEO of St. Luke”™s-Cornwall Hospital
U.S. Rep. John Hall, D-Dover Plains, visited St. Luke”™s Cornwall Hospital and toured its new, nearly completed 20,000-square-foot radiation oncology center with Allan Atzrott, hospital President and CEO. The new center will cost $17 million and provide state-of-the-art cancer care technology for residents west of the Hudson.
For Hall, it was an opportunity to learn more about the hospital”™s rapidly evolving cancer program. The radiation oncology center, which will open in the fall, will be located in a new Cancer Treatment Center under construction at SLCH”™S Cornwall campus.
During the tour, Hall learned about the cancer program”™s treatment process, access to services, the “partnership” philosophy SLCH has made central to its program”™s development and how the hospital fulfills its mission to care for the entire community, including the uninsured and patients with Medicaid. SLCH provided $21 million in charity and uncompensated care in 2008.
“Hospitals in New York state face enormous challenges with regard to maintaining financial stability and recruiting physicians,” said Hall. “I”™m pleased to see St. Luke”™s Cornwall Hospital bringing so many new and enhanced services to the region despite these difficulties.”
