A stroke, also known as a brain attack, occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel or breaks, interrupting blood flow to the brain.
When a stroke occurs, brain cells in the immediate area are killed. Prior to a stroke, individuals may notice the following symptoms:
- numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg
- confusion or trouble speaking
- trouble seeing out of both eyes
- loss of balance and coordination
- severe headache
