Bridgeport Hospital has appointed Karen E. Gibbs as its new chair of surgery. Gibbs succeeds Nabil Atweh, who retired after 30 years at Bridgeport Hospital, the last 20 of which he was chair of surgery and surgeon-in-chief.
Gibbs joins Bridgeport Hospital from Northwell Health, where she was the associate chair for surgery and chief, general, for minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. She was also director of the general surgery residency program and the advanced gastroenterological minimally-invasive fellowship at Northwell Health and director of performance improvement and auality at Staten Island University Hospital.
Gibbs received a bachelor degree from Boston University, attended Tufts University Medical School and completed her postdoctoral training at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
