Dr. Ronald J. Tatelbaum, a long-time cardiologist practicing in the Hudson Valley, has been named chief medical officer of Health Quest, the regional health care system based in Poughkeepsie.
Health Quest officials said Tatelbaum in his new role will lead efforts focused on the continuum of care throughout the Health Quest system, act as liaison to the medical staff and ensure that quality medicine is delivered in a safe environment.
“Dr. Tatelbaum brings more than 30 years of experience to this position and is committed to enhancing healthcare in the region,” said Denise George, Health Quest interim co-CEO. “His experience and leadership will greatly enhance patient care and process improvements throughout Health Quest.”
Tatelbaum came to Poughkeepsie in 1979 as the third member of the Hudson Valley Heart Center. He has served as president of the medical staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and was the first physician in more than 100 years to serve as chairman of that Poughkeepsie hospital”™s board of trustees. He was appointed the first senior vice president of medical affairs of Health Quest in 2005.
Health Quest officials in an announcement said his clinical efforts focus on “putting the patient in the center of the circle, supported by a team of professionals dedicated to improvement.”
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University and the Chicago Medical School, Tatelbaum did his medical training at Rhode Island Hospital, a Brown University affiliate. He is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiology.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the American College of Physician Executives and a board member of the Dutchess Ulster American Heart Association. The Dutchess chapter of the American Heart Association, which he served as its two-term president, honored him with its Man of the Year award. Vassar Brothers Medical Center named him physician of the year.
Along with Vassar Brothers, the Health Quest system includes Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. Health Quest also operates 10 primary care medical offices, several specialty practice offices and two urgent care locations. It delivers care to more than 1 million residents in Columbia, Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam and northern Westchester counties.
