Continuing to expand its network of health care services and facilities in Westchester County, Montefiore Medical Center on Tuesday announced a new affiliation with Tarrytown-based ENT and Allergy Associates L.L.P. to better move pediatric patients and their medical information from outpatient clinics to hospitals and after-care.
ENTA describes itself as the largest ear, nose, throat, allergy and audiology practice in the country. Six of its 40 clinical sites in the metropolitan area are near its new health care partner in the Bronx, Montefiore Medical Center, and Montefiore hospitals in Mount Vernon and New Rochelle as well as White Plains Hospital, whose agreement to join the Montefiore Health System is expected to receive final state approval in October. ENTA has offices in the Bronx, Tuckahoe, White Plains, Purchase, Yonkers and New Rochelle.
Physicians at Montefiore and ENTA in a press release said the affiliation will help improve access to comprehensive care for pediatric patients with diseases and disorders of the ears, nose, throat, head and neck. Children in the region will have local access to health screenings at ENTA clinics. Patients needing hospital care will be transferred to Montefiore within 24 to 48 hours. After their hospital discharge, patients will receive treatments and additional screenings as needed from coordinated care teams.
“By working closely with leading community providers like ENT and Allergy Associates, we can greatly improve access to superior services that are convenient for the thousands of young people impacted by head, neck and ENT disorders,” said Dr. Marvin Fried, who heads the department of otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery division, at Montefiore Medical Center. “We are excited to have the opportunity to broaden the range of interventions that address our patients”™ needs.”
“The children and families of the Hudson Valley will be the big winners here,” said Dr. Frank Shechtman, otolaryngology partner at ENTA”™s White Plains office, “because we will now be able to move them quickly and comprehensively from our offices to Montefiore when tertiary care is needed.”
Dr. Matthew Kates, an ENTA otolaryngology partner in New Rochelle, said in the announcement, “I have long believed that the combination of community and academic medicine should be served up in a smooth and unified way. With our new agreement with Montefiore, I can easily see this coming to fruition, for the absolute benefit of my deserving pediatric patients.”
