Bridgeport Hospital has become the first hospital in Connecticut to earn Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians.
The voluntary program program established geriatric emergency department guidelines for hospitals, recommending measures that include the installation of geriatric-friendly equipment to the presence of specialized staff. Bridgeport Hospital established a specialized Geriatric Emergency Medicine Service in 2009 that is staffed with doctors and advanced practice nurses focused on senior health care.
“This is a major accomplishment in our evolution of providing age-friendly care to our community,” said Dr. Vivian Argento, Bridgeport Hospital”™s executive director of geriatric and palliative care. “This accreditation gives us visibility and motivation to keep challenging ourselves to do better.”
