A 35-acre wetland in the village of Mamaroneck has been acquired by the Westchester Land Trust for permanent conservation.

The Otter Creek Preserve is along the coastline of the Long Island Sound and is considered one of the most ecologically diverse of the trust”™s 29 land holdings. The area contains coastal waters, marsh, wooded wetlands and uplands, among other elements that attract different types of animals.
The land trust plans to update the signs at the preserve, clear the trails and get rid of invasive plant species.
The wetland was designated a Geologic Area of Particular Concern by the state Department of Environmental Conservation in 1978 and was declared a “critical environmental area” shortly after, according to a statement from the trust.
The land trust preserves land acquired through public and private partners. It takes care of about 7,500 acres of property.
