The Office of Carol Kurth has a philosophy that responsible living can be luxurious and in harmony with one”™s lifestyle. OOCK, a design resource for sustainable living and green boutique just opened its doors in Bedford Village.
“There is some confusion in the marketplace when it comes to the meaning of green,” said Carol J.W. Kurth, architect and owner of Carol Kurth Architects, an architectural and interior design firm. “Through OOCK, we hope to utilize the small boutique to showcase variations of green products.”
According to OOCK, the entire product offering is devoted to the ideal of sustainability, with products such as organic bed linens, fabrics and wall-coverings created from recycled materials, cleaning products and accessories. According to Kurth, they will have diverse product offerings, such as carpet produced from recycled tires and fabric from recycled plastic.
“We”™re going to have pillows, fragrances, items for the architectural interior of the home, wall coverings, floor treatments and products like scented soy candles that make great gifts for walk-in customers,” Kurth said. “We”™ll even have cleaning products for the home, which we can ship directly so customers don”™t have to lug them home.”
Kurth said the boutique will evolve continuously, be it defining different levels of green products, handing out informative pamphlets, featuring sustainable artists or hosting educational seminars.
OOCK seeks to educate customers about eco-design and to keep them hooked via an Internet presence and a weblog offering tips on sustainable living, Kurth said. Â
“What does green mean? Is it sustainable? Is it organic?” said Kurth. “These are all questions the consumer has and what we want to clarify through OOCk. We want people to know that green can be luxurious, beautiful. You don”™t have to compromise your aesthetic.”
OOCK is located at the Arcade Building at 644 Old Post Road, Bedford. For the month of October, OOCK will be donating a percentage of proceeds to the American Cancer Society. For more information, call 234-6426.
