Yorktown Town Supervisor Tom Diana passed away on Jan. 5 after suffering a heart attack at his home. He was 66 years old and his death came four days after he was sworn in for his first full term.
Diana was a former police officer and small business owner who came to politics when he was elected to the town board in 2015. A Republican, he was appointed supervisor in January 2023 to serve the remainder of the term by Matt Slater, who stepped down after winning the election to become an assemblyman. Diana won the race for supervisor in last November’s election.
Deputy Supervisor Ed Lachterman will assume the town’s leadership role. Lachterman praised Diana as “an incredible friend to so many. He was filled with energy, an open mind and heart and a sense of duty and that influenced everything he did.”
