Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the allocation of $47.1 million for New York State”™s Summer Youth Employment Program this year, which is estimated to provide jobs for 18,500 teens and young adults from low-income families.
While more than half the program”™s funds ($24.4 million) are slated for New York City, Westchester will receive $1.42 million for this year”™s program. To be eligible for the 2023 program, young people must be between ages 14 to 20 and live in a household where the income is below 200% of the federal poverty level or $49,720 for a family of three.
“For so many young people, having a summer job is a rite of passage that helps them gain valuable skills and their first experiences in the workplace,” Hochul said in a statement. “The Summer Youth Employment Program provides invaluable experiences for young people from low-income households, teaching them responsibilities that can help them excel in careers later in life.”
