Rockland County led the state in annual population growth last year, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.
Westchester ranked fifth in growth among counties, based on Census Bureau estimates for the period from July 1, 2012 to July 1, 2013.
Rockland County”™s population rose 1 percent over the period. Rockland was followed by Kings County – the borough of Brooklyn – and Queens County, both of which saw .9 percent growth, as did upstate Tompkins County.
Westchester County added 7,696 residents in the one-year span, boosting its population by .8 percent.
Kings County led the state in numerical growth, adding 23,714 residents in the one-year period  It is New York”™s most populous county with 2,592,149 residents.
Queens, the state”™s second most populous county, grew by 20,286 residents in the same period. The Bronx, the third most populous county in the state, added 10,794 residents.
Manhattan ”“ New York County ”“ trailed its metropolitan neighbors in growth last year, adding   4,836 residents, according to the Census Bureau.
