Democrat Andrew Cuomo”™s favorability rating dropped to an all-time low as governor, but he maintained a 29-point lead over Republican challenger Rob Astorino, according to the latest poll results.
A Siena College poll released Friday showed Cuomo was for the first time viewed unfavorably by 40 percent of likely voters, but the dip in popularity does not seem to be affecting his re-election chances.
“The campaign season ”“ both the primary and general election ”“ is certainly inflicting some bruises and scrapes on Cuomo,” Steven Greenberg, Siena College pollster, said in a statement. “However, with less than six weeks until Election Day voters continue to seem content to offer him another four years as governor.”
Greenberg said Cuomo”™s job rating also dropped this month, with three times as many voters saying he”™s doing a poor job as governor compared with those who say he”™s doing an excellent job.
Astorino, the Westchester County executive, continues to fight a lack of name recognition, according to the poll, with 40 percent of voters saying they were largely unfamiliar with him.
