Candella Systems awarded for green-lighting efforts
Lighting company Candella Systems Corp. in Somers has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, which evaluates environmental performance of a building and encourages sustainable design.
Assemblyman Steve Katz, R-Yorktown, presented Candella Systems with a certification plaque June 3 at the company”™s headquarters. Candella installs energy-efficient lighting fixtures for commercial and residential usage.
This fall, the New York Independent System Operator and ISO New England will host a day-long “Energy Synergy: Competition and Innovation” in New York City. Policymakers, technology vendors and industry professionals are expected to gather Nov. 1 to discuss the changing electricity landscape. Information is available at isoenergyconference.com.
SBA develops export business tool
If you run a small business and have thought about expanding your company”™s reach overseas, the U.S. Small Business Administration has developed an online tool to help create a customized export business plan.
The planning tool includes worksheets for global market research, financing information and ways to determine export readiness.
“Creating jobs through exporting is one of the nation”™s top economic priorities, as the president indicated when he launched the National Export Initiative,” said SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills, in a statement. “Giving exporters the tools to do their part in this effort is essential. The new Export Business Planner is one such tool and will serve businesses in the critical process of planning for their success.”

Intellectual capital campaign lauded
The state Economic Development Council honored Westchester County”™s Office of Economic Development for its “Intellectual Capital” marketing campaign in the categories of best development brochure, best printed advertising material and best website.
A highly skilled and educated workforce underpinned the campaign, which was developed by Thompson & Bender in Briarcliff Manor.
