The Westchester County Legislature”™s Committee on Legislation is reviewing a first draft map of reshaped county legislative district lines based on 2010 U.S. Census data.
Last redrawn in 2000, the revised map kept districts with a plus or minus of 5 percent of 55,000 residents within each district.
The 2010 Census showed that Districts 1 and 6 were above the plus-5 percent mark, while District 16 was under the minus-5 percent mark, resulting in some changes.
Reviews will continue before presentation of a finalized map to the Westchester County Board of Legislators and an open public hearing.
Summit for nonprofits
County Executive Rob Astorino and U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, are scheduled to speak at The United Way of Westchester and Putnam”™s Not-for-Profit Leadership Summit Monday, May 9, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown.
The goal of the annual summit is to identify upcoming challenges and opportunities facing the counties”™ nonprofits.
Eight breakout sessions will follow the keynote speeches, whereby attendees will learn about leadership policies, social media and green technology.
“For the past several years, nonprofit agencies have been faced with a double challenge: more Westchester residents depend on their services every day while federal, state and local governments cut essential funding,” said Catherine Marsh, executive director of the Westchester Community Foundation, in a prepared statement. “The 600 or more staff, board and volunteers who attend the summit will receive practical guidance for operational efficiencies and a changing work environment.”
