Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and the city”™s Department of Public Facilities announced this weekend”™s scheduled opening of Pleasure Beach has been delayed until July 8 due to a tick infestation.
According to a press statement from Ganim”™s office, the beach has received undergone multiple site visits from state government agencies specializing in tick control along with input from the Connecticut Audubon Society and private contractors to address the matter.
“The City of Bridgeport”™s efforts to ensure safety for all visitors, along with adverse weather conditions have caused unforeseen delays,” said Ganim”™s office. “We have scheduled for multiple tick applications beginning June 30th and continuing once every three weeks thereafter. Once we have completed the first-round tick repellent application the Parks Department will begin the mowing, maintenance, and beach combing throughout the season.”
