The election tally for supervisor of North Castle finds the candidates separated by exactly one vote.
CBS News reported Democrat Joe Rende received 1,569 votes while Republican Barbara DiGiacinto received 1,568. Lawyers for the candidates were in court yesterday arguing over the validity of several uncounted absentee ballots, including one from a relative of the outgoing incumbent supervisor Michael Schiliro, a Democrat who crossed party lines to endorse DiGiacinto.
“There’s 20 absentee ballots – there’s five that are in question, and it’s such a close election, those five could be critical,” said Rende’s attorney Mitchell Baker.
The Board of Elections is waiting for a judge’s ruling to count the absentee ballots and recanvass the in-person vote.
