The fourth annual investment symposium for minority- and women-owned business enterprises, part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statewide initiative to promote such enterprises, will be held Wednesday in New York City.
The event, hosted by the New York State Insurance Fund and focused on financial sector companies, will allow business owners to showcase their services for potential new clients as a way to spark statewide job growth.
The event will be held at the offices of the Insurance Fund at 199 Church St. The state’s largest workers’ compensation and disability benefits carrier, the Insurance Fund has been one of the state’s leading agencies in terms of the number of contracts for minority- and women-owned business enterprises.
In 2011 Cuomo issued an executive order to explore ways to eliminate barriers for enterprises in state contracting. In October, he announced the state achieved an all-time high in the number of minority and women contracts, reaching $1.48 billion across 97 public agencies.
“Providing the support that MWBE firms need to prosper in New York state continues to be a priority for my administration,” Cuomo said in a press release announcing the symposium. “We have made significant progress in reducing barriers and expanding opportunities for MWBEs, and hosting these forums provides another platform for companies from the financial sector to showcase their qualifications and expertise.”
Jennifer, is this event open to only NY-based MWBE firms and firms on financial sector? My firm, Winston Strategic Partners, LLC, is a strategic communications firm that supports change management efforts, talent development objectives via training, and diversity initiatives for all sectors. We are located in Connecticut, certified by NMSDC and WBENC. Kindly advise as I have an interest in attending. Thank you.
