New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson is the Democratic nominee for county executive.
Bramson will challenge incumbent Republican Robert P. Astorino in November. Astorino is running for his second term.
Bramson was elected by party leaders over county Board of Legislators Chairman Kenneth Jenkins, Yonkers, and Legislator William Ryan, White Plains,  at a nominating convention at the Westchester County Center early Thursday morning.
The Democrats decided to avoid a primary this fall to save campaign funds to improve their chances of knocking off Astorino.
Astorino has $2 million in campaign funds while Bramson has amassed $500,000, according to campign disclosure forms filed with the state.Â
Bramson, a graduate of New Rochelle public schools and Harvard University, has served as mayor sicne 2006. He was re-elected in 2011 with 79 percent of the vote.
