In response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook, Democratic legislators are moving to ban gun shows permanently from the Westchester County Center.
Gun shows were banned by former County Executive Andrew Spano in 1999 in the wake of Columbine, but were reinstated by current County Executive Robert P. Astorino when he took office in 2010. The county executive”™s office cancelled a gun show set for February in the wake of the tragedy.
“There is no reason to allow gun shows at the County Center,” said  County Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins in a statement. “It is county property, and we control what activities are permitted there. We are sending the wrong message to our residents by allowing a county-owned facility to host an event that advances the proliferation of guns.”
The county legislators said they also plan to review the county”™s mental health system.
