William M. Mooney Jr., president of the Westchester County Association, has been appointed to a state Mandate Relief Redesign Team by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Immediately following Cuomo”™s State of the State address Jan. 5, the newly instated team began work on an initial set of recommendations for the governor to be submitted for review by March 1.
Representatives from the private sector, education, labor and government will examine imposed state government mandates for cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Controlling taxes and spending at the local level was the driving force behind the Westchester County Association”™s creation of its Call to Action Committee.
Mooney said the WCA”™s role in providing Cuomo recommendations shows “the governor has recognized that our association has been at the forefront of calling for mandate relief since we first began looking at the high property taxes we pay in Westchester County back in 2007.”
Mandate Relief Redesign Team members also include: Stephen Acquario, executive director, New York State Association of Counties; Peter Baynes, executive director, New York Conference of Mayors; Jeff Haber, executive director, New York State Association of Towns; David Steiner, commissioner, New York State Department of Education; Fran Turner, Civil Service Employees Association; Kevin Law, president, Long Island Association; Kenneth Adams, president, New York State Business Council; Ed Malloy, Upstate Building Trades Association; Carol Kellerman, president, Citizens Budget Commission; and state Sen.
