Gov. Andrew Cuomo holds a major funding advantage over his opponent, according to state campaign reports filed Tuesday. Cuomo”™s camp reported more in expenses over the last six months than Republican Rob Astorino has in the bank.
Cuomo has a formidable $35 million campaign fund, according to the filings, while Astorino, who is facing name recognition challenges across the state, has $2.4 million in the bank.
Astorino, the Westchester County executive, has said his goal was never to go shoulder-to-shoulder with Cuomo in terms of fundraising. In January, the incumbent governor already had $31 million on hand.
The recent filings showed $768,900 donated by 288 corporations to Cuomo in the last six months. Astorino had 228 corporate donors contribute $243,040. The Westchester County executive continues to trail in the polls by wide margins and faces a ratio of two registered Democrats for each Republican in the state.
