Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Kaplowitz and Vice Chairman James Maisano will continue in their leadership positions for another two-year term, officials said this week.
Kaplowitz, a Democrat who represents New Castle, Somers and Yorktown, and Maisano, a Republican who represents New Rochelle, Pelham and Pelham Manor, said Monday they have bipartisan support to continue in their roles.
The two have served on the Board of Legislators together since 1998.
“I think the confidence that my colleagues have demonstrated in Vice Chairman Maisano and myself is the direct result of the inclusive, collaborative, professional and fair manner in which we have administered the work of the Board of Legislators for the past two years,” Kaplowitz said. “We have many important issues to address in the next two years, like continued compliance with the fair and affordable housing settlement, important capital projects and the transition to a private-public partnership to manage Playland.”
Officials called the past term “the most productive legislative term in many years.”
“Over the last two years, Mike and I have worked hard to maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and collegiality in the way we operate at the Board of Legislators,” Maisano said. “I believe that the Westchester Board of Legislators stands as an example to lawmakers from local municipalities to Washington D.C.”
In an statement Monday, officials also said that Democratic legislator Catherine Borgia, who represents Ossining, will continue to be the board’s majority leader for another two-year term and Republican legislator John Testa, who represents Peekskill, will also continue as the board’s minority leader for another two years.
Legislator Alfreda Williams, a Democrat representing Greenburgh, and Legislator Gordon Burrows, a Republican representing Bronxville, will be the majority whip and minority whip, respectively, for the 2016-17 session.
