Westchester County has entered into a shared services agreement with Yonkers, with the goal of saving the city more than $150,000 a year, County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced Jan. 24.
The county and the city will share three county services: the Human Rights Commission (HRC), the Employee Assistance Program and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
The services will come at no cost to the county, which already shares several of these services with other municipalities.
Under the agreement between the county and the city, Mark Fang, executive director of the county”™s Human Rights Commission, will be deployed to Yonkers one day a week to hear and address any human rights issue that the public brings to the city”™s attention.
Yonkers will cover 20 percent of Fang”™s salary, paying $25,000 a year. Overall, Yonkers will save $100,000 annually by sharing the HRC service with the county.
Sam Wear of the county”™s Information Technology Department will assist Yonkers with Geographic Information Services. Wear will help the city map critical infrastructure while putting other important information online so as to provide better information/resources to Yonkers residents. By sharing this service, Yonkers looks to save approximately $50,000 a year instead of hiring its own private GIS consultant.
Westchester County will begin to act as Yonkers”™ Employee Assistance Program service provider Feb. 1.
