With National Coffee Day coming up on Sept. 29, the caffeinated gang at WalletHub have compiled their list for 2023’s Best Coffee Cities in America.
WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 12 key indicators of a strong coffee culture, ranging from the number of coffee shops, coffee houses and cafés per capita to the average price per pack of coffee. According to this data crunch, San Francisco is the top U.S. city for coffee lovers, followed by Portland, Seattle, Orlando, Honolulu, Tampa, Austin, Oakland, New Orleans and Pittsburgh.
WalletHub also found Raleigh, North Carolina, has the lowest average price for a pack of coffee, $3.54, which is 2.4 times lower than in Honolulu, the city with the highest at $8.59. Fremont, California, has the highest average annual spending on coffee per household, $229.62, which is 3.5 times higher than in Hialeah, Florida, the city with the lowest at $65.06.
Gilbert, Arizona, has the highest share of households that own a single-cup/pod-brewing coffee maker, 31.51%, which is 1.9 times higher than in Hialeah, Florida, the city with the lowest at 16.51%. Orlando, has the most coffee shops, coffee houses and cafés (per square root of population), 0.4360, which is 5.5 times more than in Laredo, Texas, the city with the fewest at 0.0793.
Portland has the most coffee and tea manufacturers (per square root of population), 0.0209, which is 20.9 times more than in Tulsa, the city with the fewest at 0.0010.
And if you forget that Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, fear not – you can celebrate again on Oct. 1, which is International Coffee Day.
