A recent report by California-based Rainforest Action Network said PepsiCo Inc. is one of 20 snack food companies whose use of palm oil products may be harming the environment.
To address the risks associated with purchasing palm oil, the environmental group said it is visiting companies throughout the country and asking leaders to only buy palm oil that is “fully traceable,” “legally grown” and “sourced from verified responsible palm oil producers.”
Activists in the  group have voiced their concerns to PepsiCo and other food giants as part of a national campaign to remove conflict palm oil responsible for rainforest destruction, human rights violations and carbon pollution.
The other snack food companies the group will target include Campbell Soup Co., ConAgra Foods Inc., Dunkin Brand Group Inc., General Mills Inc., Grupo Bimbo, Hillshire Brands Co., H.J. Heinz Co., Hormel Foods Corp., Kellogg Co., Kraft Food Group Inc., Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Corp., Mars Inc., Mondelez International Inc., Nestle S.A., Nissin Foods Holdings Co. Ltd., The Hershey Company, The J.M. Smucker Co., Toyo Suisan Kaisha Ltd. and Unilever.
