PepsiCo Inc. is seeking municipal approval of expansion plans at its world headquarters on Anderson Hill Road in Purchase that include a new visitor center and an additional 135,000 square feet of office space.
Submitted in June to town of Harrison planning officials, the proposed two-phase construction is part of a revised master plan to accommodate the company”™s 21st-century needs and enable it to stay on its 150-acre campus in Purchase, PepsiCo officials said in an outline of the project”™s scope.
The proposal calls for construction of a glass atrium building as a new reception area in the central courtyard between the food and beverage corporation”™s existing buildings, a multipurpose building and a visitor center with a separate gated entrance from Anderson Hill Road. The plan would add approximately 135,000 square feet of office space to the company”™s existing 420,000 square feet, create about 75,000 square feet of support space in the visitor, atrium and multipurpose buildings and add 600 parking spaces.
PepsiCo”™s renowned sculpture gardens and pond will remain. Company officials said the new layout will “maintain the property”™s elegance,” preserving the balance between buildings and open space.
The planning and approval process is still in the early phases, said a planning department employee in Harrison. PepsiCo spokespersons could not be reached for comment Thursday.
PepsiCo earlier this month announced its agreement to pay $7.8 billion to acquire the Somers-based Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. and its other anchor North American bottler, PepsiAmericas Inc. in Minneapolis. The merger, which awaits approval by regulators and shareholders, will consolidate 80 percent of the company”™s North American beverage volume and create one of the largest food and beverage companies in the world. PepsiCo and Pepsi Bottling Group officials said it was too soon to say how the businesses will be integrated.
