Sabra Dipping Co. LLC announced on Wednesday it had recalled 30,000 cases of its classic hummus product because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
In a statement released by Sabra, the company said there had been “no reports indicating that these products have caused any illness.” The contamination was discovered when a random sample was collected at a retail store March 30 by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Sabra said it voluntarily recalled the hummus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Listeria is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning, but it is considered rare.
Headquartered in White Plains, Sabra is owned by PepsiCo Inc. in Purchase and Israel-based Strauss Group Inc.
Pepsi owns Sabra?? Another good reason not to purchase.
