Beylka Krupp”™s shrimp etouffe recipe took the grand prize in General Mills Foodservice”™s national recipe contest, the company announced on Wednesday. Krupp, the owner and chef at Ossining”™s Wobble Café, received a $40,000 cash award and $10,000 to donate to back to the community.
General Mills launched the “Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest” this year to celebrate independent family restaurants and their original dishes that reflect “local flavor” and include at least one General Mills ingredient, a company spokesperson said. Krupp”™s winning recipe is a New Orleans-inspired shrimp dish made with a tomato, garlic, onion, cream, Cajun spice and herbs sauce served over cornbread, eaten for dinner or brunch.
Krupp received her award Wednesday at a ceremony at the company”™s headquarters in Minneapolis. Her shrimp dish was up against two other finalists ”“ a yogurt chocolate chip coffee cake from a farm restaurant in Orange, Mass., and a pecan chocolate ganache brownie cake from a seafood grill in Galveston, Texas. Those chefs each received a $10,000 prize.
Krupp and her husband, a Briarcliff Manor native, have owned Wobble Café at 21 Campwoods Road since 2005. Krupp grew up on a self-sustaining farm in Vermont and pursued culinary studies in Vancouver, British Columbia.
