Heineken USA Inc. and the city of White Plains are partnering to keep residents safe on New Year’s Eve by providing free safe rides home. Any Westchester County resident of legal drinking age celebrating New Year’s Eve in downtown White Plains can take advantage of the “New Year. Safe Ride.” program.
The program, which marks its 10th year, will provide rides to anywhere in Westchester between 11 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 3 a.m. on Jan. 1. Thirty cars will operate out of a service station located on the corner of East Post Road and Mamaroneck Avenue.
Over the past nine years, the program provided more than 3,000 free rides home, said Stacey Tank, senior vice president and chief corporate relations officer of Heineken.
“This program is a long-standing demonstration of the importance Heineken USA places on responsible consumption,” Tank said in a written statement. “We are honored to stand alongside our community partners and are proud to be headquartered here in White Plains.”
The White Plains Business Improvement District will partner with the city and local sponsors to host the 14th annual White Plains New Year’s Eve Spectacular, beginning 10 p.m. Dec. 31. The event will feature live music, a countdown and ball drop, and fireworks, said Brittany Brandwein, director of events and business promotions for the White Plains Business Improvement District.
