Dear Kingston, a bar and beer garden that opened in Kingston in April, was abruptly closed this week.
The reason for the shuttering of the new business is unclear. In an Instagram post, the management of the business stated, “Dear Kingston has closed. We are thankful for the opportunity to have served you and gotten to know you. We truly appreciate you all, and thank you deeply for your support!”
Hudson Valley One reported that a GoFundMe page was set up for the former employees. This online fundraiser stated Dear Kingston”™s closing was because the business owner claimed “the building needs to be sold for personal reasons and that due to this the bar will need to close effective immediately.”
Eric Sturniolo opened the Oneil Street business on April 2 after four years of planning its creation.
“I started a craft beer blog about 10 years ago, and from there I got into the industry as a beer buyer at a few different bars,” Sturniolo said in an interview with Chronogram when the business launched. “I really loved seeing people enjoying what I chose. I started home brewing and just really wanted to keep seeing people happy … When I visited Kingston, I immediately fell in love with it and thought creating this place as a love letter to Kingston would be perfect.”
