In Westchester County damage to area parks caused Hurricane Sandy amounted to around $30 million.
According to Parks Commissioner Kathleen O’Connor, Rye Playland amusement park in particular took a huge hit from the storm with damage totaling $12 million. O’Connor told the Board of Legislators this week the amusement park”™s boardwalk was all but erased from the landscape.
Ice skaters and hockey players who typically enjoy the park”™s Ice Casino have to find alternatives because the facility remains closed. That arena sustained damaged to the roof and its boiler. Officials are still waiting on a final financial assessment of the damage so that they can move forward with the repair.
