More than 174,000 people signed up for New York’s health benefit exchange since it opened Oct. 1, said Marci Natale, deputy director of public affairs at the New York state Department of Health.
The health exchange website has enrolled 37,030 people, Natale said. Of those enrolled, 13,313 signed up for a commercial health plan  and 23,717 applied for Medicaid.
The goal of the health exchange is to enroll 1 million uninsured New Yorkers over the next three years. Insurance coverage through the exchange begins Jan. 1.
Early problems on the site have been resolved, Donna Frescatore, executive director of the New York Health Benefit Exchange, said in a written statement. The state has a hotline, which enrolls uninsured New Yorkers and 50 sites where navigators can help people enroll.
More information about the health exchange is available at www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov.
