When a regional magazine named Boscobel as the best place to have a picnic, the historic house museum in Garrison took the accolade to heart.
It has begun to offer its visitors an essential picnic element ”“ fresh food.
Readers of Hudson Valley magazine, in their annual survey for “The Best of the Hudson Valley,” voted Boscobel as “The Best Place to Have a Picnic.”
Though the historic house museum from the Federal period is also noted as a venue for special events, exhibitions and lectures, it has not necessarily been connected with food. However, its picnic and bistro tables, chairs and grassy lawns overlooking the Hudson River and its highlands apparently made an impression on visitors.
Having earned the recognition, Boscobel decided to begin offering the makings of memorable picnics, including a freshly prepared, daily-delivered selection of sandwiches, salads and snacks. These new options are being provided by Hudson HilӪs Caf̩ & Market in nearby Cold Spring.
“Visitors can now plan to purchase food and beverages at Boscobel before or after they purchase their admission ticket,” Boscobel”™s Executive Director Steve Miller said in a statement. “They can then head out on the grounds for a picnic experience like no other. Even if they didn”™t plan to picnic, rather than leave the property in search of food, they can find a delectable variety right inside our carriage house. Visitors may even find a picnic basket and/or blanket in our gift shop.”
Hudson Hil”™s, owned and operated by Hilary and Bob Hayes, has a mission to create a high-quality dining experience within a casual atmosphere. Integrating New York state products into the menu to help support local small businesses is also key.
And the collaboration has yet another element. Boscobel visitors are entitled to a discount at Hudson HilӪs Caf̩ & Market. Presenting your same-day Boscobel admission receipt on a weekday to your server at Hudson HilӪs earns a 10-percent discount off in-restaurant dining.
Boscobel is on Route 9D. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. November and December. It is closed Tuesdays and Thanksgiving and Christmas.
