The humorous advice said to have been given to Michelangelo as he entered the completely blank space of the Sistine Chapel was: “Don”™t let it push you around.”
The same advice might be germane for Co-Communications, the Mount Kisco-based public relations and marketing firm that just landed the contract to market the Hudson Valley, 150 miles of nature and history as rich as any swath on the planet.
Co-Communications and principal/founder Stacy Cohen are now tasked with generating interest and spending in what National Geographic Traveller has termed one of the planet’s top 20 destinations.
In 2011, visitors spent $4.6 billion in the Hudson River Valley, creating 82,527 direct jobs and generating $567 million in state and local taxes, according to Hudson Valley Tourism.
“We were impressed with Co-Communications”™ breadth of integrated marketing experience and social media expertise,” said Mary Kay Vrba, Hudson Valley Tourism president, in a prepared statement. “They understand what people love about the area and have the depth of knowledge necessary to communicate how special the Hudson River Valley truly is and inspire and enrich its tourism.”
Co-Communications, which also operates offices in Farmington, Conn., and New York City, will partner with Westchester-based Harquin Graphics.
“The Hudson River Valley is not only a vibrant tourist destination rich in beauty and history, but also a vital place to do business, and enjoy leisure time with family and friends,” said Stacey Cohen, president and founder of Co-Communications. “We are thrilled to partner with Hudson Valley Tourism to highlight this remarkable region and enhance its tourism.”
Trends to consider will include the farm-to-table movement, which is both growing and demonstrating long-term prospects for growth.
