Xerox Corp. announced Thursday it has secured a $16 million contract with the Department of Homeland Security to digitize citizen documents.
Out of a Kentucky office, the Norwalk-based company plans to scan and digitize immigration records, producing more than 25 million images a year for three years. The records will be used for immigration purposes.
Currently Xerox is renovating its Barbourville, Ky. space to meet the stringent security requirements for handling government documentation and records. Once completed, it will be one of less than two dozen offices compliant with National Archives and Records Administration standards.
The project is expected to create 50 new jobs in that area.
